Poecilotheria is a genus of the spider family Theraphosidae currently containing some 16 species of arboreal tarantula, commonly known as tiger spiders, native to Sri Lanka and India. The author was part of island-wide research project on this genus. This book covers a range of topics including evolutionary history, classification, spider silk and webs, hunting behaviour, venom, use in folk medicine, and the place of spiders in folklore and mythology. Finally, the book also discusses the importance of conservation.
